As a citizen, I feel very identified with the experiences of women from other parts of the world that we have seen in the survey. In my work I’m more concerned about accessibility than security and mobility, but I think it’s very important topic to take into account in the design of better cities for all of us.

Personally, I have to admit, although it makes me angry, that I’m considering going to work by bicycle, but the poor communication between the city where I live and the one I go to, and the concerns related to my personal safety, especially at times when there are no people on the streets and open fields, it worries me…
María del Rosario Velasco GarcíaParticipantHi! I live on a small island, Lanzarote, in the Canary Islands (Spain). As there is no good public transport and it’s a very turistic place, the routes are usually made on foot or by private or rental car, so it’s difficult for me to differentiate the movement patterns that occur in other places.
Last year there were 900 cars registered for every 1,000 inhabitants, as you can see in a story in a local newspaper.
There is an Island Plan for Sustainable Transport and Mobility (2024-2031), but gender-segregated data has not been taken into account in the diagnosis, nor is it mentioned that gender equality will be taken into account in the aforementioned Plan. Therefore, we do not have data to be able to evaluate gender differences in island transportation…
